The TIBS History
- The International Baccalaureate program was first implemented in Texas at Bellaire High School. By 1989 several IB schools in Texas were approved, thus leading to the 1st conference for IB coordinators and principals. On November 17, 1990, a conference was held at Awty International School, hosted by Awty and Lamar High Schools for IB coordinators and/or IB teachers.
- The following year, November 23, 1991, an IB coordinators/IB teachers conference was hosted by Garland High School, Garland, TX.
- The Texas Association of Gifted and Talented, meeting in Austin, TX, extended their first invitation to IB Coordinators to attend the TAGT annual conference on November 17-20, 1993.
- The IB coordinators formally formed the official Texas International Baccalaureate Schools (TIBS) organization in 1996 with the organizational panel consisting of: Cynthia Smith-Garland High School, Lisa White-John Tyler High School, and Kathy Huth-Judson High School.
- In fall of 1997 Garland High School hosted the first official Texas International Baccalaureate Schools (TIBS) IB coordinators/IB teachers conference in Garland, TX.
- The TIBS organization began hosting TIBS annual IB coordinators/IB Teachers conferences in the summer of 1997, hosted by Garland High School, at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX.
- IB coordinators that attended the TAGT conference in the fall of 1997 elected Karen Phillips, Westwood High as the president of TIBS and the following summer a TIBS conference IB coordinators/IB teachers conference was held at Anderson High School and at Westwood High School the following year. Both conferences were hosted by Westwood High, Anderson High and Leander High schools.
- The TIBS organization formed a governing board of directors in 2000 that continues to the present. At that time, a TIBS constitution was developed and ratified by all members.
- In the summer of 2000 the annual IB coordinators/IB teachers conference was held at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, hosted by Garland High School.
- In 2002 the TIBS board and IB coordinators voted to change from an annual IB teachers format to Subject Roundtable discussions with an IB coordinators meeting to be held annually.
- Coronado High School hosted the first roundtable in the fall of 2002 for all IB History teachers in El Paso, TX. The following spring a roundtable for Theory of Knowledge and IB coordinators was held in Dallas, TX, hosted by Plano East High School.
- In the fall of 2003, Awty High School hosted a roundtable for all Language B teachers and the following spring a session was held for IB Science teachers and IB Coordinators.
- Beginning of 2004 the TIBS organization hired Karen Phillips, former IB Coordinator, as the executive director for TIBS.
