LIMBS DAY
February 29, 2016
It was a competition between Bush Middle School and Ranchview High School. At the end of the week, RHS gathered $135.12; BBMS raised a total of $318.94, while online donations were $70. Special recognition goes to the Bush Dance Team which sold Valentine Grams and donated an extra $100 to this worthy organization! Two LIMBS will be donated to someone very needy with this $624.06.

Westlake Academy fourth grade students went to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas for a tour. While there, they were able to see the prosthetics lab, the clinics, and the radiology department of this amazing hospital which specializes in pediatric orthopedic disorders such as scoliosis, clubfoot, amputations, and prosthetics. >>>
It was an incredibly educational experience, and a great extension of their learning given that they had just finished up their campaign for LIMBS International. Our amazing fourth graders have raised $5,635. We will keep you posted on this amazing story - soon we will know exactly where our dollars will be going! >>>

In an effort to build international mindedness, G4 has designed a campaign to bring awareness and raise donations for LIMBS international. Each class created and blasted a commercial to peers and families. Here is the first of three. We invite you to share this with your students if you get a chance, and watch for our posters around campus. Our G4 students would be happy to explain this campaign and the amazing non-profit agency, LIMBS International, to your class at your request.

Trevor came to speak to us during our weekly assembly to prepare the students for LIMBS Day.
One class taped two of their fingers together for one of their assignments and reflected about how it made them feel and how they needed to adapt.
They then worked on a math project where they could only use one arm. LIMBS Day created a greater sense of empathy and understanding towards amputees and the problems they deal with on a daily basis.

International School of Texas
Austin, Texas
Students at the International School of Texas have truly adopted the IB mentality of taking action amongst themselves and within the world. In June, students raised $1,000 and donated this amount to Austin Pets Alive (APA), a local charity affected by recent flooding. To take further action in order to have a greater impact, the students collected items for APA, delivered them, and were given a tour by the Director that showed the impact their contribution will make.
Ending the school year with an insighful reflection, third grader Addision Starr wrote about how she used the IB Learner Profile throughout the year and what the Learner Profile means to her. To read a copy in PDF format, click here!
